REC/REW ReWRITE update #3


Year 3, Day 31:

Time for another update! It covers just a single day, but a dense one - so relax, lean back, and enjoy.

It won’t steal more than 15-30 minutes of your time anyway.

We’re reaching the point where the ReWRITE finally starts to diverge from the original script. It’s subtle for now: same scene, different feel. This pass leans much harder into the protagonist's slide into obsession and paranoia - something the previous version mostly glossed over, at least in my opinion.

The next update will push that even further… and also introduce something new. I might post a couple of "intermediate milestone" notes while working on it. For now, bear with me - and with two (dis)service announcements:

  1. This update will very likely break old saves and - yeah, sorry about that
    I found a bug that could send the whole game SNAFU without any warning. Fixing it required rearranging part of the call stack, which means you might load a save, everything may still look fine… until you reach the end of the scene, the script tells Ren’Py to "return" but the poor thing no longer knows where to go.
    Again, I'm sorry. Best option presently is, start a new game and spam the skip button to your heart's content. Thankfully we're still around the 50–60k words mark  so it shouldn't take that long.

  2. The next update will take a while.
    Hopefully before Christmas - it depends on how far I go with a certain idea (and yes, I'll likely go all the way). It’s the first time I try something like this in Ren'Py - heck the first time I try something like this at all - so expect plenty of coding, plenty of debugging, plenty of headache - and a generous dose of painkillers.
